CrowdHealth is a community-based crowdfunding platform that allows members to bypass traditional health insurance by pooling monthly contributions to pay for each other's medical bills directly

User persona

Jada is a small business owner of a boutique yoga and pilates studio in Raleigh, NC– a healthcare market dominated by several giant hospital systems, making the “cash-pay” search especially vital. She is also a single mother of a teenager. She is highly health-conscious, but as a small business owner with three employees, she found traditional group health plans for herself and her staff to be financially impossible.

Motivations:

  • Jada operates on a strict monthly budget. She needs to know the cost of a physical or a specialist visit upfront so it doesn't disrupt her business cash flow.

  • She prefers independent practitioners over the massive Duke University Hospital or UNC Hospital systems, as she finds smaller offices are more willing to negotiate.

  • Jada often recommends CrowdHealth to her yoga clients and wants to show them how easy it is to use.

Pain points:

  • In the Triangle area of North Carolina, many front-desk staff are trained to say, "We don't take your insurance," before even asking if you're a cash-pay patient. Jada needs a list of vetted allies who won't turn her away.

  • If her daughter twists an ankle at volleyball practice, Jada can't wait 48 business hours for a Care Advocate to email her a list of orthopedic clinics. She needs to find an urgent care center that accepts cash right now.

  • She knows other CrowdHealth members in Raleigh must have found great doctors, but she has no way to see their "recommendations" or "saved" providers.

Find a Doc

The new “Find a Doc” mobile feature replaces a 48-hour administrative wait with an instant, self-service experience. By integrating CrowdHealth’s proprietary database of cash-friendly providers into the app, it eliminates manual requests and lets members quickly find high-quality care that honors their cash-pay status. This empowers members to make informed, real-time decisions and get the care they need, when they need it—without the friction of traditional insurance networks or delays.

Key Capabilities:

  • Community Trust Indicators: Visual CrowdHealth Recommended and CrowdHealth Member badges that help users identify clinicians who are either highly rated by the community or are members of CrowdHealth themselves.

  • Intelligent Filtering: Advanced search parameters allow members to filter by medical specialty, distance radius, and specific community endorsements to find the perfect match for their health needs.

  • Elimination of Advocacy Lag: Fully automates the provider search process, reducing the "Time-to-Information" from 48 business hours via email to under 5 seconds within the mobile app.
